The Mine
A Hawaiʻi economic data service, now in development. The Mine will gather public figures about Hawaiʻi’s economy and business environment on a fixed schedule, keep every version it gathers, and publish them back in plain language, for people and for the software they use.
The Mine is an operating division of tkscm, limited. Nothing is open yet: there is no data to download, no account to create, and nothing for sale.

How it will work
Three rules, set before the first figureOn a schedule, not on the news
Figures are gathered and published at regular intervals. Nothing is issued because something happened in a market, and nothing is tailored to any reader.
Every version kept
Agencies revise their figures. The Mine never overwrites a number: a revision is recorded beside the value it supersedes, each marked with the period it describes and the date it was retrieved. What was published on any given day can always be shown.
Credited at the source
Each figure carries its source, its retrieval date and any notice the source requires, inside the data itself, so the credit travels wherever the figure goes.
Where the figures come from
Public sources only- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
- Employment, prices and wages
- U.S. Department of Labor
- Unemployment insurance claims
- Hawaiʻi Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism
- State economic research and statistics
- Hawaiʻi Open Data
- Datasets published by State agencies
- City and County of Honolulu Open Data
- Datasets published by the City and County
- Hawaiʻi Business Registration Division
- Business registration activity, in aggregate
These are the sources The Mine is designed to draw on. Listing them describes our intentions. It does not mean that any agency endorses The Mine or has approved its use of their data.
What it will not do
By design- Give advice. The Mine reports figures. It does not recommend investments, transactions or any course of action.
- Personalize. Every reader sees the same figures.
- Publish people. No names or addresses of individuals, from any source.
- Replace the source. Confirm any figure with its original publisher before relying on it.
A record like this is measured in elapsed time. Its value is the history it keeps, and that history begins on the day the collector does.
